Resistance wire
Wire is manufactured in a large range of alloys, with finished diameters from 3.25mm down to 0.06mm.
Diamond dies are used to produce all sizes below 0.7mm, in order to give the highest quality of finish.
All resistance wire conforms to BS 115 - "Specification for metallic resistance materials for electrical purposes".
For diameters less than 0.32mm, material can also be supplied to BS 1117 - "Specification for bare fine resistance wire for precision electrical equipment".
Special tolerances can be supplied upon request.
Wire is normally supplied on DIN reels, with the alternative of drum packs or coils for larger sizes.
Resistance tape
Resistance tape (or ribbon) can be manufactured from the whole range of alloy wires. Tape has the advantage of offering a greater surface area in a preferred direction which can be beneficial where non-universal heating is required. Example: heating elements in electric toasters.
